2011: International Year of Forests

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation, and sustainable development of all types of forests.


In the UN Resolution 61/193 the General Assembly recognizes “that forests and sustainable forest management can contribute significantly to sustainable development, poverty eradication and the achievement of internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals…”

For more information on the International Year of Forests click here.  Also, check out the International Forest Film Festival (IFFF).  The IFFF will showcase a selection of forest films as part of the global launch of Forests 2011 taking place at UN Headquarters in New York, and subsequently at other festivals and events around the world.
